[She's going to have to deal with him being stunned for a few moments more, though he does manage to will his feet into moving forward. It's...]
What the hell. It looks... exactly how I thought it would.
[The "house" is nestled right into a hill, and the sight is nigh idyllic. The grass is green, the door is round, the garden in front is rife with gently swaying flowers, and the fence is stout and wooden -- Eddie walks up to it, leans a hand into it to test its strength, and takes a step back when the little wooden gate swings open.
He laughs.
Then turns on a heel to look at Haru, grinning wide.]
You're thinking what I'm thinking, right? It's a freaking hobbit hole.
Do you see what I meant when I said it was better to show you? That was my thought exactly and as soon as I took a closer look, I wanted you to see it.
... Well, I wanted to confirm that you still wished to be roommates, but I would have shown you regardless.
[ It's so whimsical. It's so quaint. It's adorable and Eddie loves Lord of the Rings and she'd had a good time reading the books too. ]
[It's badass, in that perfectly idyllic way. Idyllically badass.]
This would've sold me on being roommates even if, for some reason, I was insane and didn't want to be.
[Okay, but clearly his excitement isn't ebbing until they get a good look inside, and so Eddie steps forward just close enough to reach out and grab her by the wrist, tugging her along with him.]
[ He really is so casual with personal space or lack thereof, isn't he? Haru's a little bemused from suddenly being tugged along, but it's not like he's dragging her like a stubborn kite on a windless day.
And then the adorable, round door is open and they're heading in and Haru takes a moment to glance around with her wrist still encircled by Eddie's fingers. She hadn't looked inside, after all. This is just as new to her.
It's nicer than she expected, though clearly not lived-in. There are several doors, all the same color as the front door, and an adorable-looking living area, a kitchenette further in. ]
[He's too excited to consider the possible breach of personal space, and besides, this is nothing new to Eddie, a teen (okay, an adult) from 1980s America. At the very least, the way he draws her inside--eyes casting about--give off the impression that it's an instinctual gesture.]
This is insane.
[Clearly, he means that in a good way. Off they go into the middle of the living area, well-lit by hanging light fixtures, made warm and cozy by wooden furniture that looks especially flattering in the light filtering in through the front windows.]
I mean, I think this is a huge step up from what we had before, don't you?
[ From what Haru can tell, the light fixtures appear to contain flames, and she's already making a note to herself to make sure to find a ladder if that's how the lighting is meant to work for now. But it really does look... cozy, in here. ]
I would say so. For starters, I don't believe you're going to have to sleep on the couch. And the furniture really looks charming...
[At this, he finally releases his hold on her wrist, loping away into one of the other rooms. He spies a bedroom, and then Eddie can be seen wandering about for sign of another... Which he disappears into, an exclamation echoing from within-]
Well, shit. I mean, not that I minded the couch, but an actual mattress-
No, I think being given the chance to sleep in an actual bed would be preferable for anyone.
[ She calls this over to him, since she too is wandering to check out another room. Wow, this is a lot nicer than she expected? The bar was low, but... ]
That's... true, I imagine it would. If it feels more uncomfortable than anything, we can certainly come up with another occasion.
[ She'd rather Eddie be able to fully enjoy himself and not be reminded of home and where he is and where he isn't, if he'd prefer to avoid such things. ]
[He shakes his head so vigorously that his poofy hair flings over a shoulder. No, no. He's not going to make this weird, or awkward. They really should celebrate, because he does think this place is worthy of it, just-
He'll just try not to think of it as his birthday, really. If he keeps that to himself it's fine, because he wants Haru to enjoy herself just as much as him.]
Come on, Haru. I said it was weird, not uncomfortable. We can't snag a place like a hobbit hole and not have a house-warming party for it.
A hole-warming party.
[Oh that sounds... Not like as he intended aloud. But it's funny. Snerk.]

He hurries back into the living area, following her voice to find her in another room.]
You know what this means, right?
no subject
What does it mean, exactly?
no subject
We're going to have to throw a Bilbo Baggins-style birthday party! Just like in the books!
[Whose birthday, tho. DOES IT MATTER]
no subject
[ well, she's not saying no. ]
no subject
[He shrugs. Again, does it even matter?]
How do calendars even work when you've been not to just one different world, but two now? I'm not really keeping track... I just don't see the point.
[Also, when you're dead, it feels weird to celebrate a birthday.]
But it's someone's birthday somewhere. That's all the reason anyone needs to throw a Hobbit-themed party.
no subject
[ serenely. It was his idea, after all. ]
no subject
Uh-
[Just a flash of something shadowing his brow, but then he does his level best to banish it away, shrugging. Still not a great time to bring that up.]
Sure. ...Why not? Twenty-one years, yay.
no subject
[ Carefully. Had it been her imagination, or had he hesitated? ]
no subject
But he plays it off with a wave of his hand.]
What, not party? Of course not. It's just unusual, I guess. Having a birthday in a... strange new world. Really hits home in a weird way.

Ha.

[ She sounds scandalized. One hand is pressed to her mouth.
But she's also trying very hard not to laugh, so really, she's just as bad? ]
no subject
Don't you [higher pitched voice:] Eddie-san [normal voice:] me!
[He points, faux accusingly.]
You're trying not to laugh. I see it. Come on. Hole-warming.
no subject
[ she is absolutely not moving her hand from over mouth now. ]
no subject
[He reiterates. Hide it all you want! He knows she thinks it's funny.]
Who knew your mind was in the gutter, too, Haru? Huh?
no subject
It's not, you just lingered on it...
no subject
Don't blame it on me lingering on the hole [oh my god Eddie], you took your own mind there.
